Is their life REALLY better than yours?
Do they have more of what you want?
Is it BETTER than yours?
Are they having the time of their life?
Or is it just the best day they have had for a while,
so they need to make a big thing out of it.
I know I go on about this, but I’m purely using this medium to create the opportunity to question what we are feed.
Anyway, let me explain.
So as you may or may not know,
I worked as a Personal Trainer at GymBox in London’s Bank area for two years. I had some great clients who had big goals and expectations. Unfortunate for them most were far too stressed out as a result of being so busy.
That’s city life for you I hear you say!
It sure is, but it doesn’t need to be,
It’s true we all get ourselves in a state from time to time.
And when life demains you achieve so much what can you do.
But anyway,
I’m not writing to you to talk about stress and the effects.
I’ll leave that to my coaching content, though I’m sure you know I delve into this from time to time.
I want to touch base with you about something I see troubling a lot of people. Comparisons!!!
More context;
The reason I left GymBox was that I couldn’t breathe,
I felt suffocated by the BS.
There was 40 PT’s there all crushing it,
Well, all claiming to be doing so anyway.
Their busy clients also bought into it too.
But underneath, most were struggling,
Drowning their emotions in pots of Nutella,
after going from fasting, ( cutting stuff out ) to get that lean social media pic. To then crashing with feelings of guilt when they put on a few pounds and smoothed out. ( just a term meaning put on body fat )
Most had thousands of followers all telling them they looked amazing.
Talk to them for 60seconds, and you realize they were frantically trying to be liked,
or should I say followed!
It’s easy to think that so many people are having the time of their life. That coffee they are drinking is the best coffee in town, The holiday they are on is the next location you need to get to.
That picture of their food tastes better than anything you have ever had,
and of course, all the beautiful people they have around them makes you wonder if your friends are cool enough.
Highlights;
We all have them.
But comparing with other peoples best pics will have you depressed before you can say #bestdayever
My main point is,
Some influencers are promoting that you do it their way.
That you need to imitate their lives.
So if you want the same disorders by all means follow,
recreate what they have.
