Treating sleep with less priority than it deserves because you are busy will eventually make you ill, and most probably fat.
You may think that those last few extra hours after dark are going to make a difference in your productivity, but It’s a mistake.
It’s one huge mistake I made for years when I worked at a desk,
I sent my stress levels through the roof;
I got fat, unhappy and ironically much less productive.
The importance of sleep is one of the primary things that I try to instill in new clients when I start working with them.
It’s slightly awkward to teach better sleep practices, and I think that’s because most people feel we should automatically know right.
Too many people I know have gotten fat and unhealthy trying to stay up getting more stuff done with devastating effects on their health and waistline.
Staying up too long past sundown will make you run down.
The reason there should not be a compromise on sleep is that you will destroy your health if you don’t stick to a natural circadian rhythm,
it’s your circadian rhythm that governs your body.
These circadian rhythms include a series of hormonal secretions (metabolic reactions) to the natural daylight patterns.
The last thing you need is low melatonin at bedtime.
Warning: keep on staring at that screen and you will achieve that in no time!
I think that for most, poor sleep patterns start when young because we believe, we can get away with it, we can at the time.
But the research shows you can’t.
Sleep is of the highest importance.
It’s far too easy to stay up under bright lights or in front of the screen trying to extend the day.
If you’re not careful, the damage will go far beyond the lines and dark rings under your eyes it will become illness and fatigue.
I think that part of the battle is that corporations fail to acknowledge the importance of our natural circadian rhythm for busy workers.
It’s still an expected assumption that we should be able to rest on the weekends and make up for it, that, of course, makes it impossible to be healthy unless you get great sleep.
One of the primary processes that happen at night is detoxification. There are a few tricks to having a good nights sleep, like having your lights, devices, and Internet on a timer.
Ultimately though it’s a mindset, a choice.
We have to realize that you can’t fight what should be a natural pattern for long without catastrophic consequences.
OMG… Here’s a shocker for you.
How about we consider moving towards a lifestyle ( including career ) That allows us to get great quality sleep;
That’s in line with our healthy circadian rhythms.
Awake when it’s light, asleep when it’s dark.
I think this is the single most important thing for us to consider, whether it’s because you have a new health transformation goal,
or you just want to be positive and well in general.
Attention: If you are reading this after 8-9pm tut-tut. Read the above again because you haven’t taken notice! Reading from screens after 8-9pm will make you fat!!
