What’s the most important meal of the day?
“Its the one you eat before you go shopping!”
Everyone knows that if you go shopping when your hungry,
you can easily be influenced to what you buy and eat for the rest of the week!
That may sound comical but it’s the reality!
All meals are equally as important as the other, though for different reasons!
Perhaps if we gave all our meals the importance they deserve,
we wouldn’t be at the mercy of crashing blood sugar levels that lead to unproductivness and negative moods during the day.
In this type of state even the most health conscious among us desperately grab for anything at hand!
Here’s my take and thoughts around certain meal times and the importance that they deserve,
with a few simple suggestions chucked in.
Breakfast
The common belief is that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Have you given it any thought to what happens if you wake up severely dehydrated?
Breakfast is great time to hydrate and cleanse as the transit time for liquids is probably about as fast as you can get,
thats obviously because your stomach is relatively empty.
I would say in most cases hydration is more important than feeding because it one of the many ways you body clears waste.
The morning is a great time to top up your daily hydration levels and starts the day with that great habit in place.
Warm filtered water and the juice of half a lemon will do you wonders first thing to hydrate cleans and lower your PH level.
Fresh vegetable juices are next on the list, as they are easily digested and assimilated,
getting straight to work at giving you a quick power shoot of vital nutrients.
After this great start to the morning, I would then recommend finishing breakfast with something along the lines of Porridge with added nuts and seeds, for a energy dense main meal, that should keep you going for a few motivated, productive hours!
Lunch
Another daily main meal, that most seem to rush.
In most cases lunch is treated way to lightly in terms of how much energy is consumed.
Quiet a few of you consume small lunches, that contain very low levels of energy during one of the most demanding times of the day!
You need something a little more substantial than a salad!
Try consuming a meal with some Protein like a Chicken, Meat or Fish, a good Carbohydrate, like sweet potatoes with a leafy green salad.
Dinner
Many of you seem to need to eat the largest meal of the day in the evening and its a really bad habit to do so!
You get home late for work with an insatiable appetite that doesn’t finish after the ginormous plate of food. It continues to over flow into a mountain of snacks after dinner, and you probably go to bed to have a night disturbed by a full stomach. Its an natural tendencies to want to make up for your basic daily nutritional and energy requirement and the void you created by not eating enough during the day! This would be the perfect time to consume a lighter, smaller meal, like a salad with fish!
The most important meals are the ones we need!
The daily habits of eating fast with stress, hours after initially feeling hunger, are driving us to eat mindlessly and ultimately meaning we are not considering what is actually good for our vitality, moods and health
